Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my Canon 400D as I want a better camera now.

Needed improvements;
Considerably more MP
Better low light sensitivity ISO
better low light noise handling
better low light focusing
HD Video 1080p
Live View

Welcomed improvements;
Custom Mode
Battery improvement
Tilting/adjustable screen

Mainly looking at second hand cameras up to around £400.
Had a look into it and I believe my options are;

60D
600D
550D
5D Classic (Full Frame)

I'm swayed towards the 60D.
What would others reccommend and point out to me?

Thanks!

What do you shoot? Or what do you want to shoot that you don't shoot now?

Thanks for the reply, i shoot everything to be honest. Well not really wild animals or birds. Normally holidays, artistic photos of everyday life, and general all round stuff, the odd long exposure, landscape, urban life etc...

Don't really get any good night time shots though and would like to get them without a problem. There's 3 problems here as noted in original post, ISo sensitivity, noise and focusing. Water protecting would also be useful in rainy England and sailing.

Also interested in getting a little video in but probably not much.

Would the price of the 60d (used or new) drop when the 70d is released? When is the 70d expected? Ad what price would the 70d new be?

I'm going on holiday sailing again 30th september and would like it all sorted for then.

I upgraded from a 350D to a 40D and found the difference to be very positive
from the handling, size, controls, FPS, controls window, options, longevity, build quality etc
60D would get my vote
I wouldn't got 5D (FF) unless you're going to put some nice glass on it personally. Cropped sensors I think make the most out of non-L glass.

you could go 2nd hand and get a nice 50D/60D maybe?

Thanks for the input.

That's interesting about the 5d, that FF shows imperfections in glass? Or is that not what you mean?

Ok so im pretty much sold on the 60D, the specs say it is water resistant. How good is this? I.e for a big splash from sailing in Greece? :)

My other concern is whether I would be able to buy a 60d new once the 70d comes out. Would the price drop a significant amount since the 70d would be priced about the 60d current price, probably the used wouldn't change much though?

I have been using a 650D today and it impressed me a lot. High ISO images were good and in general its the best xxxD model I have used.

Build quality has been improved a lot and I like the new matte finish, although this does show up white marks a lot, you can easily rub them away.

The touch screen is fast and responsive, works really well. Actually prefer it to the 60D.

Luke, i went from 450D to the 60D about 16 mths ago. They are miles apart in handling and performance. My only regret is that i did nt save up a bit more and get the 7D, but thats photography.
The 60d is a great camera.
