Upgrade from Minolta Dynax

I have used a friends and i very much like the functionality of this DSLR. I am in the market for a camera and I really like this one although they are getting a bit long in tooth now..
What would todays equivalent be, Alpha i presume but then which model?

If you mean the 7D then the Sony A700 is (or was, it's just been discontinued) aimed at the same market.

If you mean the 5D then any of the A2xx or A3xx (entry level) or A4xx orA5xx (mid-range).

All the Alpha cameras have the same lens mount as the Minolta.
