Yes
Is it worth it, the only thing I really have against it is the plastic mount. Is the 16 - 85 much better or is the 18 - 70 the one to go for (albeit without vr which I do find useful)

On holiday recently I found the zoom often on the 18mm stop so figure the extra 2mm of the 16-85 might be useful.

not really bothered about the 18 - 200 as I have a 70-300VR for the longer range stuff.......

I went from 18-105 and saw an improvement in IQ with the 18-70 and think its a nice lens. Tamron 17-50 or 28-75 are very good too.

If you are happy with the IQ from the 18-105 and all that bothers you about it is the plastic mount, why don't you just keep it, ( the plastic mount is not such a big deal and is easily and cheaply replaced in the unlikely event it does break) and get a wide angle in the 10-20mm range.

Absolutely, I have the Sigma 10-20, think I am suffering a bout of gearitous at the moment!!!

Ah! Well that is a different matter then. :D

I do think the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8, OS or not, represents better VFM than the Nikon 16-85mm.

The Nikon 18-70 can be had S/H for good prices if you don't need the speed.

I can't fault my 18-105mm I taken some craking photos with mine. To be honest it sounds like you are thinking of upgrading for the sake of wanting a nice new lens! :D

If you get the 16-85mm you will start missing the reach. and I think the 18-70mm is just about the same for QI.

The 18-105VR is a great all-rounder, keep it! The only thing worth upgrading to would be a constant 2.8 zoom, but then you'd lose the length.

The 18-70 is a little star of a lens and at the price it's worth having.
