Upgrade from Olympus E420 - 550D or 60D??

Hi guys I'm new to the formus and after some advice about the best upgrade route. I've been using an Olympus E420 with kit lenses and a 35mm macro lens for the last two years.

I've got a budget of about £1300 and have been eyeing up either the Canon 550D, 600D or 60D with the 18-55mm kit lens. I am planning on doing portrait shots and already do a lot of macro photography and am looking at getting the Tamron 90mm f2.8 SP DI Macro 1:1 lens also.

I would also be looking at getting a resonable speedlight too

Any recommendations or suggestions would be appreciated

You could get a zuiko 12-60mm and 50mm f/2 macro within your budget.

I'd seriously consider that, those are two top quality lenses, they'll get you better IQ than a 550/600/60D with kitlens.

Agreed, read about the 14-54mm MKII and the 12-60mm, the difference you will see over the kit lens will be superb.

Have you thought about an E-5? There's not a lot that will give better IQ with the above lenses in combination. At low/normal ISO range DPReview found the E-5 could resolve detail that simply went off their measurable scale...
