As per the title, I'm looking to upgrade my SX1 to an SLR.
I'd prefer Canon, as pretty much everyone I know into photography uses Canon which offers a lot of scope for getting a real opportunity to try other lenses. That said, if there is an alternative offering from another manufacturer that offers a significant upgrade or saving, then I'm more than willing to listen.
I'd like something that does HD video like the SX1, although I might be willing to sacrifice this functionality for something full frame, although I suspect that this is one hell of a long shot, and anything full frame will be way out of budget.
I'm not adverse to second hand items, and my budget is around the £500 mark, but I'm willing to stretch that a little.
I've been looking at reviews, and it seems that the 550D offers a lot of bang for buck?
I also need a couple of lenses, most of my stuff will be car photography - indoors mostly, and mostly with low light levels ("Detailing" work), but I'd also like some sort of walk about lens as well.
I'm guessing something like a Sigma 30mm f/1.8 would do for the inside work (I'm a sucker for DOF, too), but I'm open to suggestions. I have no idea on the walkabout/general purpose lens though - I wasn't overly happy with the kit lens on my 400D.
I don't really have a set budget for the lenses as long as they can be had second hand and are reasonably popular (ie. I can sell them on easily enough and without too much loss, if they ever become surplus to requirements).
Any help would be much appreciated!
Edit: After looking, a 5D MK1 appears to be close to my budget, is it worth considering one of these over the 550?
