upgrading from 40d to 5Dmark1

yeah mark1 not mark 2
has anyone done this, i own a 40d and im thinking seriously about getting a 5dmark1 and wondered if anyone could tell me how much of a difference they noticed from that upgrade.

hi mate, at the moment 50mm 1.8 would be what id probably be using mostly on it but can go for L series if need be. Would be in d700 territory then though for the money
