Using a CPL with ND Grads in the Lee Holder

Hello,

Sorry if this has been asked before - seems search is still disabled?

I need a new CPL basically (I don't have one at all currently!) and want to be able to use it in conjunction with the Lee filter holder system and Hitech grads (not that the grads should make any difference).

What I was wondering if, if I bought an on the lens CPL like a Hoya/Heliopan can I expect serious vignetting? This is of concern to me for both my Sigma 10-20mm and Sony 16-105mm, both which are classed as UWA and both require slim filters as it is (and the Lee UWA adapter ring).

I have ocasionally left my UV on in error and noticed I do get vignetting, so I'm guessing this is a daft question and the answer is yes?

Which also leaves me to my next question, would the Lee CPL solve this? Despite its ridiculous cost?

All the best,

James

You can stop the vignetting on the sigma by taking off 1 or 2 of the filter slots and using the 105mm CPL on the front of the lee filter holder. I personally went for the B&W kassman CPL over the lee one.

Thanks - i can't find anything on it though really. Don't have a link do you?

I tried the lee holder on the front of a standard CPL - and got vignetting below 14mm on my 12-24mm lens fitted to Canon 40D

It also wrecked my CPL - which was a decent hoya model. Not sure exactly how, but I think all the rotating and the adjustemnts of the lee holder caused the filter rorating mechanism to give up and fall apart.
