Using an Off Camera Shoe Cord, with an old flash unit & DSLR Body

I have a canon 40d body, i'm told canon bodys can take up to 6v from a flash

I also have a canon speedlite 299t flash
this is an old flash but is apparently only 4.7 volts

If I were to mount my flash off camera with a bracket and use an off camera shoe cord... this would work wouldn't it?

I am reluctant to try the flash straight on my camera body... and would rather have some buffer between the two, the flash will be better off camera anyway

Back to the 299T eh?

A cord won't offer any additional protection but getting the flash away from the lens axis is normally a good thing for creativity. Your 299T will be as safe as any current flash used on your 40D.

Yeah I know ! It's been sat in a draw unused !

But now I'm airing on the side of cautious !
