Using SLR in the rain

Winter is one its way mt tog friends!

Ive just got my D3000 and im reluctant to use it outdoors even in light rain.

Any tips on keeping my camera dry for cheaps? As i dont want to shell out loads of money for waterproofing equipment, and id really like to get out and about before next summer.

you can pick up cheap rain covers on ebay or search for camomac on here or google.
 
Tesco do a range of rain covers, you get them free when you do your shopping :naughty:

If you want to spend money, then Op/tech do one for around a fiver for a pack of two.
 
With a D3 or D2x (better sealed than the newer model according to the Chaps at calumet), you'd be fine - but with a D3000 I wouldn't chance it, I'm afraid...

Either trade-up, buy a placcy-bag and elastic bands and wrap it carefully, leaving the viewfinder and lens exposed (what we all used to do pre 'weather-sealed' days, incidentally...), or stay indoors and read a good book...

I can recommend Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith...

I'll believe them on that.

I've had both a D3 and a D2X seriously wet on a couple of occasions. D3 fogged internally, D2X was fine.
 
can recommend camomac from here

great product and not expensive either if only plan to use occasionally

typical "rob the snob" answer. just ignore it.

OpTech rain sleeve 2 for a fiver on ebay, job done ;)
 
use a clear plastic bag use a elastic band around the lens
cheap as chips just the sameas the rain sleeve
 
I just use a chamois over the top of it :)

It varies. Mild drizzle I use a bar towel draped over the top of the camera lens. Mild rain, then it's a brolly, or the plastic bag covers (large zip food bags work well). It's it's a bad rainy day then Coleman Event Shelters work well and I just shoot from one end.

Only issue is moving the other parents out the way.
 
I dont know abot the D3000 ( have a 40D) but if it starts raining I just dig out the camomac and carry on :)
