I'm borrowing a Spyder 3 elite atm and wonder if anyone has used one with ATI radeon cards. It's asked me to set my monitor back to factory default. Will I need to do this with my ATI CATALYST control center too before calibrating?

You need to default everything before you start, you will be surprised at the difference when you calibrate it.

I have a dual monitor system with 2 totally different makes of monitor, it's amazing to see them both look identical in colour and hue.

I personally left my Catalyst controll alone - and I think the calibration is perfectly fine.

Mmmm, well, I've performed the calibration and I have to say my fears seem to have been realised. The results are WAY too bright. If I had shots printed at DSCL after this calibration they'd come back dark as hell.

And a bit green.

I guess if you did mess with your catalyst quite a bit, then it could cause it to be off. I never really touch mine so I may just get away with it. I'd try settimg them to default and then re-calibrating see how it looks.

Go to the Spyder website, I think there are some videos on how to use the kit properly, I know there are for the Spyderprint. The one I watched for the spyder print made a heck of a difference to the results I got.

I'm not using the spyderprint, mate.

I did, fella. All set to default before calibrating.:bonk:

What make and model of screen are you using? Some are more difficult to calibrate than others.

It's an LG Flatron L1760TR. Not the best in the world, but far from the worst.

Switch OFF the catalyst. It's not needed nor wanted. Set your monitor to default by going into the menu and hunt around for the reset and select it (you will probably need to confirm the ok)

Once done continue with the calibration. What Gamma did you use?

I have to say I have 2 monitors and my more expensive samsung calibrates very well but my cheaper one is always too bright. I try to turn it down in the NVidea settings but that just changes the profile used so cannot be used. You need therefore to forget about using the controls.

No matter what I do with my second monitor there isn't enough contrast and it's just too bright :( Maybe someone with more experience may be able to do somethying but even starting with the brightness down doesn't seem to help......

I feel your pain!

I've pretty much given up on it, mate. Don't have long enough with it to work it all out.

have persevered with my cheap monitor - can't get it to profile correctly - always too bright and I'm stuck! Maybe I'll try their support

I'm already looking at new monitors. Might be the only way.

No need to go hugely expensive. My Samsung 215TW was about £275 a few years ago now. The cheaper Samsung 2253 looks nicer, is larger and is fine for general use - but not photography - I think that was about £140 a year or two ago.

I'd look to spend somewhere in the £275+ again for my next.
