UV Filters

Hi, I'm just wondering about the differences in the various UV filters, I recently bought a Tamron 70-300 USD (it's great by the way, but more on that later when I have some decent test shots) and bought a UV filter with it to leave on as protection.

Now, what I'm wondering is was getting the Hoya 62mm HMC UV (C) Filter (as it was the best they had) a mistake? Are the more expensive ones noticeably clearer, or is the standard HMC one good enough as it's just a UV filter?

The better ones tend to be "coated" which can help with glare. They are also much more likely to be optically better. ( No point buying a great lens and then trying to shoot through a "rippled" glass chinese filter) That said, I have all kinds of brands and I cant tell the difference. the difference in price was only £10 or so... Buy the known brand if you can afford it.

Look at the light transmission row.

Hoya HMC does alright but the higher end Hoya HD filters have the easy to clean coating which makes them my pick for new filter purchases.

Some interesting info there, thanks. I went for hoya as it's known to me but it's nice to have it confirmed that even though it's not the best one they do, it's still good enough to use until I'm feeling flush again and can afford to buy a round of Pro1's.
