Video enhancement software recommendation please

Hi I’ve got some holiday videos shot on a Sony camcorder that I would like to upscale to HD and also sharpen them up a bit
I think they are 720 by 576 and are AVCHD format
would be happy to upscale to HD which I think is 1020 but mainly want to sharpen them up a bit

I tried out Topaz AI video but discovered that it isn’t compatible with AVCHD
I only need to do 4 videos and wouldn’t use it again so topaz would be a bit expensive £200 for that even if it was compatible

I have contacted AVC labs who make a program to do this but they couldn’t say if their software was compatible but did offer to test a sample or suggested a free trial which I could use a small segment of video to try out , I may try that but the software is expensive at £40 a month a bit out of my budget

can anyone recommend software to do this please that’s easy to use I’m not that experienced with video editing
 
That is their own site so should be.
I have heard of some problems with version 18 but try it anyway.
 
Thanks 4wd. Downloaded, just need to find a decent tutorial for beginners to make a start as this is far different than my Movie Magix.
