Views on Nikon 50mm f1.4 G AFS.

Yes, Yes and Yes...
If you don't absolutely need the additional 1/3 stop then the f/1.8 is probably better in terms of absolute image-quality, but you'd have to use sensitometric methods to really see...
But it's really well-made and lovely to use...
I got mine last month and I have a whole series of 'street'-style portraits planned for the troops I work with when I deploy, using just this lens...
There's a real 'weight-off-the-shoulders' feel to using this...makes me feel all nostalgic...like being 12 years old again with my old Pentax + 50mm lens...

I got one on release day. It's a great little lens which I love, although initially I wasn't as impressed with the sharpness as I thought I would be. You can see my tests and write up on it HERE. Although, I am thinking about re-testing because since doing the initial sharpness test I've upgraded my tripod to a far more substancial one. In real life use though I'm happy with it and although I don't use it very often, I'm always happy with the results I get from it when I do.

Not a particularly good photo but this was taken with the Nikon 1.4D indoors no flash, depth of field is wafer thin

Thanks for your replies everyone. Is the 50mm f1.4 AF S G superior in any way optically to the Nikon 50mm f1.4 AF D? I ask as I will mainly use this lens on my D2Hs which doesn't need AF S or will it focus faster on the D2Hs giving me a benefit on the D2Hs? AF S will be useful of course on my D40 which is the reason for my interest in it over the AF D.

It's sharper wide open, controls CA far better but isn't any quicker to acquire focus. Once it has acquired focus it is far more accurate using AF-C though.
It's comfortably my most used lens alongside the 24-70/2.8. I shoot 95% of wedding with these 2 lenses.
