If you don't absolutely need the additional 1/3 stop then the f/1.8 is probably better in terms of absolute image-quality, but you'd have to use sensitometric methods to really see...
But it's really well-made and lovely to use...
I got mine last month and I have a whole series of 'street'-style portraits planned for the troops I work with when I deploy, using just this lens...
There's a real 'weight-off-the-shoulders' feel to using this...makes me feel all nostalgic...like being 12 years old again with my old Pentax + 50mm lens...
