Hi Bob and welcome to the forums.

Number 1 - You seem to have missed the focus point on this one and focussed on the feather on the wing rather than the eye. The eye is priority always.

Number 2 - Not doing anything for me.

Number 3 - If you took away the left hand side of this picture it would actually be very nice. The sun on the water, the swans head at that angle, the reflection all make this a potentially good shot. The left hand middle of the picture kills it though.
 
I decided to have a quick look at Number 1 for you.
This was achieved by simply sharpening the picture.

When I sharpen in PSE it doesn't seem to make much difference.
Did you simply click the sharpen filter?

Oh your new, can't send pm.

Ok..
Filter >>> Sharpen >> Unsharp Mask.
Amount between 120 - 200% but play with it and see, depending on lenses etc, you sometimes need a lot less but those setting are good for kit and lower price lenses.
Radius 0.9
Threshold 0

Stick with those settings and you wont go far wrong m8.
