I find that mono conversions can do well in the overcast conditions, so long as you still retain sky detail (manual exposure and histogram perving is the way). #1 and #3 are good, but the positioning/framing of #2 looks off, the open space on the left and the missing rear of the freight. #3 is a bit too burnt out but practise makes perfect etc
 
They are all more or less as they came out of the camera, not had time to play with the skies or whatever. As regards space on the left in #2, I prefer somewhere for the loco to drive into, as for clipping some van, you would need to do a distant wide shot to include the whole train to avoid clipping one or the other.
