Waterproof Cases/Cameras [experiences?]

Does anyone use waterproof cases for their SLR or use any decent waterproof cameras, needs to be fast shutter with high FPS if it does.

Am getting into Kitesurfing photography and when not out hurting myself i wanna still be in the water taking photos so any advise would be great that you could give me.

Don't think it has to be waterproof just splash proof, Had a quick look around but only ones i can see are £1000 cases so i can submerge my camera like a submarine.

Hi Morgan,

Although they are sold for diving the EWA marine bags are possiblya solution for what you need. They have some limitations to be aware of though.

1 You can only use internally focussing lens and can't turn a zoom ring while one is on the Camera.

2. You're limited as to what lens actually fit - I don't know if this is an issue for you and isn't really any more restrictive then the limitation with available hard housings.

3. Although rated to 60m most divers rekon they become unusable (although not leaky) by 10m. Not an issue for surface sports

4. They don't have a domed lens port unlike good housings. This can affect image quality.

As a positive they *only* cost between £2-300 as opposed to £1K plus for a hard housing.

Have a look at aquapac. They do an slr bag, as Boyfalldown says above, the similar does apply, however this only costs £80.

I have not used this particular bag, but do have the large compact bag for my point and shoot and also have a handheld VHF bag for my radio when I am jet skiing. I can honestly say these bags are great, both have been in the water when we have fallen off the ski, or just in the shallows sorting ourselves out, and have never leaked. I have never even rinsed them in fresh water, and they still work perfectly 4 years on.

I used an EWA Marine housing sold from the site a good few years back (4+), albeit for a bridge camera rather than a SLR. After initial worries as to whether it would work, it soon became clear that the system was rock solid - not a leak in sight. Took quite a bit of abuse to, even with the kids playing with it.
 
Think I'm going to get the EWA bag looks more robust and bit more sealed from the pics.

Should be able to order it tomorrow ready for the weekend :D.
 
Go to your local dive shops, they give good advice and you may get a bargain?
