I'm after a waterproof mat that I can lie on for taking pictures outdoors without getting covered in mud. Seen one at wildlife watching supplies but it is little bit too much. Does anyone have any other cheaper suggestions, maybe a decent picnic blanket?

Here is the one I would like.

but that is a little bit more than the person usually spends on me (yes, it's a Christmas present)

Go to a camping shop and buy a close cell sleeping mat. Waterproof and warm! Should cost around a fiver.

Don't you slip about on them? I tried a plastic bag once but didn't get on with it.

And I can#t really ask the inlaws for a garden waste bag for Christmas. Is nothing in between?

I've seen fishermen with a fold out mat as well, but not sure what that was.

Ha, just found what the fishermen use - it's a carp unhooking mat. Think I'll stick with the mat suggested by Daysleeper40 though as it looks a lot lighter to carry.
