Popped out into the jungle (back garden) to do some lens test shots, saw a couple of nice backlit webs amongst the overgrowth and nipped back inside for the water mister bottle and a reflector and stand.

I used the black side of the reflector to use as a background to highlight the backlit web.

All taken with the Canon 5D, 100mm macro handheld.

Looks like you shot these wide open which makes the focus a bit crucial.

Unless there might be compression issues it doesn't look like you nailed down the focus perfectly...

I think the OOF problems are more to do with the limited depth of field rather than a focus issue, they were shot at f4.5, f4 and f8 respectively. Although the one shot a f8 is very much closer.

The bit that was focussed on is sharp in each photograph (spider in 2nd and lunch in 3rd) not enough light to use a smaller stop. Perhaps next time I should go and get the ringflash too!
