Hi all,

Been posting on here for a while now. Recently upgraded my gear and got a lot of useful C+C on some of my photos on here.

I've now set up a website using the Clikpic system. ANyone care to comment? C+C very very welcome. (Content, wording, layout etc)

Thanks

Nothing wrong with the overall look and operation of you site, but I will make a few comments:

1. Why have you watermarked the picture of yourself - who do you think will be looking to nick a copy of that?

2. Is it a good idea to have a watermark on the main picture on your home page?

3. For the benefit of search engines, it will be better if you have some text about yourself and you work/business on the home page. With just an image there is nothing to help the search engines find out anything to help in a search.

So, I say that you need to rethink the watermark issue. It looks a bit naf to use watermarks in the way you have here.

But nice looking site otherwise. :-)

Thanks for feedback Badger. I'll answer each of your comments the best I can.

1. I used an automated watermarking programme. But it's a good point, I could resubmit the photo without the watermark.

2. The main photos on the home page are a random slideshow of all the photos on the website, therefore as the watermark is part of those photos, then they will be on the home page. Also, with watermark, do you have any recommendations as to size, location etc?

3.Appreciate the help on this one. Will have a think about this, see what I can do to put some relevance here.

Regards

Rob

I realise that this won't protect your images as well as a full monty watermark across the entire image, but what about trying a watermark that looks more like a signature? Say in the bottom corner. It could be quite large still, but will probably look a little better may be.

Or....

Hows about using images on the home page that you can live with having stolen? Just a couple that give a flavour of your work - sort of sacrificial photos. Hahahahaha

I'm just doing my site and I don't water mark the thumbnails at all and only the larger images are watermarks on mouse roll over. Additionally, the right mouse key is disabled.

There was a great post on her the other day about protecting your images. I'll see if I can remember where it was and let you know.

Thanks for feedback Badger. I'll look into a siggy type watermark.

If you can find the thread you mentioned I'd appreciate that.

I agree with the SEO stuff. You certainly want the word 'Photography' to appear in your pages titles.

Design? Nothing wrong with it, though I'd centre the whole page if it were my site. Looks better on big monitors that way. If you do centre it, test it in all popular browsers as although you'd think it would be simple, it's not.

Otherwise, nice job.

I think that you should try and centre the page more, make the blurb font a bit bigger, I would hope that people have got a resolution better than 800x600, which is what your site looks optimised for.

Also move the signature to a corner of the picture, instead of right through the centre of it, or lower the opacity. It distracts and spoils your good shots.

Thanks for comments guys....no doubts this will be WIP for some time! However I have changed the watermarks already.
