After some good honest feedback on my new(ish) site that I have just given a bit of a revamp and pimping session today.

http://www.cravencards.co.uk/

There are a couple of technical downsides to it, that I know of, but will be interesting to see if anyone else picks them up.

After crit on the site rather than the photos btw ;)

joomla with a wrapper for the gallery?

the only thing that i could see wrong was that the joomla favicon is there..could you not do what you wanted with wordpress?

Damn always forget the favicon!

Yeah it is Joomla with wrapper for a pixelpost blog as the gallery, which is the main issue for me at the moment, cant link to specific images etc.

I could possibly have done it with wordpress, but for some reason I just can not get on with it. It makes me want to kill after only 10 minutes of trying to make it do what I want.

Please select either "Cards & Prints" or "Photo Calendars" above to find out more.

We are continually adding more photographs to our catalogue.
If you would like to suggest a future location for us to photograph please use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of this page.

Would it be better to hyper link the key words rather than rely on the user to find another link on the page?
Also the Twitter logo is white on white so sort of semi visible.
The calendar in the slideshow is 2010 but the text refers to 2012 being available, might be better to show the latest version?

Good thinking :) thanks

and the twitter thing is bugging me, I am using the code from the twitter site rather than a joomla module/plugin and it is VERY limited in what I can change colourwise....so that could be changing completely :)

have you looked at other gallery options? some of the joomla native ones are quite good, also might be worth looking at some joomla shop type plugins?

another similar to joomla is Elxis, its a bit easier to use...

Hi,

Nice crisp and clutter freee site.

> white Craven Cards & Calanders (top right) blurred
> the 'contact us' is a bit hiddden away at the bottom
> for me, the banner transitions a tad too fast

Cheers.

Using IE8 here are my thoughts for what they are worth....

The buy print and buy card buttons overlap the photo borders (although the "|" spacer doesn't).

The sections of text on the left look like Google Ads on first glance.

It's nice and clean but lacking something, I can't put my finger on it. I think the foreground needs to be lifted from the background with some subtle shadow work (like the subtle shadow used in the http://www.comparethemarket.com website) although this may not work as your bordered sections are not one solid block.

It's a little anonymous with no proper contact information. Not an issue for a photographer's website as you'll get the photographer's information long before payment but for a products based website I'd like to know there's more than just a contact form for communication.

Every now and then some of the images are coming up with red x's.

I can't find a location for Glasgow prints so there's a huge inherent problem there already ;)

Need to put company registration number & address somewhere on the site. Found this article with specifics.

In Safari I get a scrollbar on the window showing the cards, but it only scrolls a fraction, page still works fine though. Don't get it in chrome or FF. Joys of web browsers :)

I like that its a simple layout, but had some navigation issues, i.e. once I chose Cards & Prints and then wanted to look at a Village contents
- for example Embsay, I selected the first photo thumbnail and then instead of the "next photo" being number 2 of 3 etc, it took me straight onto Malham.

Had similar issues navigating in other villages / other areas -(I am using Google Chrome as my browser)

Regards
