Hi guys

Looking at getting a website up and running, do you have any suggestions on a good web builder and roughly what it would cost?
I mainly want to focus on portrait and landscapes and eventually go into weddings. So I want a customers to be able to buy online.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

That's pretty cheap for half decent site...
Server costs? Domain name? Monthly bandwidth... Let alone designer building the site.

It all adds up.

If your looking to design a website & depending on how complex or pages you need, I would say from 250+

Or you can go down the route which many photographers take and buy one of those packages which you can buy from & they set it all up, lots of those sites out there for photographers.

They range from about 80-150 pa.

I was looking at upto £400-£500 all in. Obviously the cheaper the better as I don't want to throw money away. But I am quite paticular ( a fussy bas***d) I've built websites before which have been quite impressive even for me, but this time I just can't get it how I want it so I've decided to stop stressing and get someone else to do it. I was looking at photobiz.com, has anyone used them before?
 
How long is a piece of string?

I asked a local company to design mine and gave them a brief of hosting images, some pages about pricing and products and a client area for proofing. The quoted me £1200 plus £1000 if I wanted any SEO....oh and I would have to pay for any changes.

So I got a template one for £100, hosting is £6 a month and I can change anything on it any time I like.

I will pay the experts (as I expect to be paid too) but the difference was never going to be justifiable.

ClikPic start at £35 a year, good for SEO, easy to use, although if yo wish to really customise it it takes ages to do. Photium is also very good. Both allow online orders.

Templates can go up to £500 + with the better companies who have CMS and good seo.
 
Have a look at the Bludomain templates. They start from as little as $50.00. Alternatively build your own. I did mine with Serif web Plus X4. The software costs around £50.00 on Amazon and is excellent - very easy to use. They can host it for you too - although if I recall correctly, their hosting prices are very expensive. I host mine with AR Hosting and that costs as little as a tenner a year.
 
I design and build websites and I'll say this: if you want something that will last, look good and ultimately show off your company, get a custom design done.

Most designers and developers charge depending on the complexity of the site. A simple static site is the cheapest, you get a nice design and can modify it further if you need to. If you want more dynamic/fancy pants stuff, it costs more. Ordering from a website can be complicated. How would you want people to order? Would you want to be able to log into the site and look up the orders and allow clients to modify them or would you just want the site to send you an e-mail?

These are all things to think about and it's worth at the very least have a sit down chat with a designer/developer and talking things through.

Website hosting is negligible in the grand scheme of things. You can get hosting from £2 per month and a domain name from £6/year.

Funny how photographers value their work so much higher than other professionals. I'm sure this has been discussed previously in great detail.
 
For the main site, I paid for some templates and insert into a blank paper (MS word). Simply use hpyerlink to active all pages. I then used wordpress for the blog which is fully customized. My site here

Depends which professionals you talk to I suppose. I've seen photographers massively undervalue their work and designers overvalue their work. It's all swings and roundabouts really.
