Websites - Black or White background?

Just wondering what the collective thoughts are on background colours for websites. My preference is for the clean look of white but I am also aware that this does not always show off images, particularly moonochrome ones, at their best.

Grey is easier IMO. Both black and white are too hard.

As you say Black shows off pics better but white is easier for reading text, depends on how much Text content you will have to be honest, if adding a blog you could always change it so the blog section has a white background behind posts to make text easier to read?

60/40 now.

Just changed mine from black to white. Just looks fresher to me.

I voted black, but my first choice would always be dark-ish grey.... :shrug:

I would say white or light grey is my favourite, black makes text hard to read.
