Hi,
I expect this has been asked before, but the search function is currently not working, & I need a bit of advice asap.;)

I am assisting at a wedding next week, but my slingshot 200 is not really very functional for a wedding.
I would really like recommendations for a shoulder type bag that it pretty smart looking:thinking: And would need to hold a Canon 50D, Siggy 24-70, Canon 70-200 f2:8, 430EX & the usual cards/batteries ect.

Any advice greatly received.

Surely the bag only has to hold the equipment not being used, i.e., the body and one of the lenses are always going to be in use so the bag only has to hold the rest of the kit?
 
I recently bought and used at a wedding a Tamrac Pro, which looks very strong and had easy access for all the bits and bobs during the day. Most shops don't hold very much stock of the larger ones and it is difficult to choose from the web.
I contacted Tamrac they kindly sent some bags on sale or return to my local store for me to pop in and look at.

Spence, I have yesterday invested in a Vanguard Uprise 38 messenger bag especially for the purpose you mention. I can get my D700 gripped with 70-200 lens attached, the 24-7, the 14-24 and the 50mm, plus an SB900. That is all in the main compartment then there a multiplicity of smaller pockets for all the other bits and pieces. Another feature is accessing the main compartment either by lifting the big outer flap or by a zip on the top. A great bag which accomodates all the essential gear.

the retrospective has caught my eye though
 
My retrospective got delivered this morning - I'm a bag junky. But it means I don't need to heft my Billingham 445 around as it's too heavy when full - I can keep most of my gear in it during a wedding and leave it in the car and use the Retrospective on my shoulder!

A lot of these camera "rucksacks" are very expensive. Why not get a good rucksack and customise it. I have a Jeep rucksack (£15 in JD Sports), and I reckon that with a bit of attention it could hold two DSLRs at least with a few lenses, batteries and flashguns.
You need a rucksack with full length zips, and then buy/find foam padding and get some good glue.
As they say on Top Gear - "How difficult can it be?".
 
they're not a rucksack really more messenger bags, for the price and brilliance of the tenba messenger i'd rather just buy that than dick around with a standard bag

things like decent d-rings, waterproofing, millions of pockets, straps for attaching extras on, way better shoulder straps etc etc also make me think why bother :)

Have to agree!
All that expensive camera gear is well worth keeping in a decent bag.:thumbs:
