Hello all,

Now many of you may be reading this saying 'O no, not again - A dad with an DSLR attempting the wedding scene' - I can say that is not the case, thank god.

I have been asked attend a Wedding for a family freind (also runs the local car club I shoot at) which is on 9th/10th July (Don't ask me why it is two days, recieving details soon). Eventhough I have been doing event photography and corporate work for sometime now, Weddings are something which I am yet to attempt.

I am not here to ask how to shoot a Wedding, however just asking for those little tips on the important shots of a Wedding. As I said, I am new to weddings and therefore do not have a full understanding of what is expected in terms of shots - Could any of you give me some pointers as to the important shots?

Will be shooting the wedding with a 50D / 70-200 2.8 / 50 1.8 / 580 EX II so I am pretty confident of the quality of results. As previously stated, event photography is my main genre of photography therefore candid work comes likes Jim Davidson on Viagra to me, it is just those 'needed' or 'typical' shots which I am looking for some pointers on.

Any help much appreciated as always.

If you google wedding shot list you should find a few, go through a selection and pick out the common ones, as many togs work weddings differently theres always going to be variations anyway. Wayne

I would have thought that a 50mm on a crop body as your widest lens will not be wide enough for a lot of the group shots.

As you seem confident with your equipment nothing needs to be said there.

Find the above lst a guide only and speak to the bride/groom about what they want as well.

And take water to drink and chocolate to eat so you dont faint.

and take a change of shirt and some under arm stuff cause you will be running around like a hoon.

and enjoy.

Thanks for the tips. I do have the kit lens as well for the group shots (18mm).

I am loving the link given - Thank you. I see what you mean about a change of shirt...reading the list there is quite a few snap and dash shots e.g. the kiss then straight to the end of the aisle and then straight outside.

The only thing I'd disrgree with there is the chocolate, yes it's nice but it melts and is messy, and makes some people thirsty, maybe some energy bars or boilled sweets instead, or the good old kendal mint cake, if you like it.

Worthers Originals come to mind... hmmmm

I am being fed and watered at the reception, so all is good. Been told to drink if I want with a taxi waiting for me - The extra perks of shooting a freinds wedding...slightly different feel I would say to a 'proper client'
