Hello all
What camera would you recommend? and why?
My wifes looking at getting a dedicated camera to be solely used with her MP-E & MT-24EX Macro set-up.
The camera would be permanently attached and used for no other purpose.
Thanks in advance

Or a 450D as it is the cheapest with live view and you dont need the improved build quality, AF speed or iso performance of the 40/50D. But yea, i agree live view is great for macro work.

5D or 5DmkII or a 40D if you want a cropped sensor - live view is useless unless you mount on a tripod with focus rail - and don't forget a flash - MT-24EX

Since lens to camera couplings are pretty much irrelevant, a two quid adapter on your D3 should do nicely :D She could bodge the flash on manual ;)

On the other hand, 5D2 sounds perfect. Full frame, live view etc.

She'll prolly be needing a good tripod and some macro rails. Really Right Stuff if money's no object, Or this guy makes some cheaper alternatives. He does custom orders too; he's making some bits for me. V helpful chap :) http://stores.ebay.com/Hejnar-Photo__W0QQ_dmdZ1QQ_sidZ294546836QQ_sopZ10

Many thanks guys.
Shes thinking of changing from canon to nikon, but wants to keep her macro set-up, as nikon dont do.
40D is looking good. Can you still buy new?

You're throwing away a lot of valuable image with a cropper, but if that's cool a used 40D is a great buy. I sold a minter recently for under £400.

My 40D is up for grabs if your are interested

I used mine mainly on a 40D (subjects that would fit in a 20 x 10mm box at lifesize). I tried the 50D but never found quite the same clarity. The 5DMkII also works well for the larger specimens.

A question on the side for Richard (HoppyUK)....how will an adapter for the D3 cope with aperture setting....pretty crucial for the MP-E.

Haha! It wasn't an entirely serious suggestion Bob. I was just reading between the lines of the OP's cunning plan of switching his wife to Canon so she couldn't use his nice Nikons ;)

450D is smaller, lighter (plastic), slower, cheaper, and has a different user interface.

Similar IQ.

Ok thanks. I'm just trying to stop my wife (kdbee) moving to nikon :D or i will have to buy a padlock for my camera bag :D
