What did you replace your kit lens with?

I rate the 18-55 IS kit that comes with the 450. I think its great!..
 
I used the IS kit for ages after I got my 500D and highly rated it. Needed some extra width on my shots so got a Tamron 10-24 and supplemented it with a 50mm f/1.8.

Now have a 10-22 and a 50mm f/1.4, considering getting something a little longer too...
 
I had/have the original kit lens that came with a 30D. I't not the best in the world but much better than many give it credit for, I've seen plenty of superb images shot with one.

I did upgrade to a EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM , and that's a stonkingly good lenses, but it had to go when I got a 1D to be replaced with a 24-70 f2.8L

Ditto, when I had a 300D and my low-light stuff was always on a tripod because it was completely dark.

I had a 50mm f/1.8 for hand-held in low light.

Replaced the 300D with a 5D a couple of years later and the 17-40 is still doing sterling service as a wide zoom.

I think you are spot on petersmart.

I work in a photolab and looking at some of the terrible photographs people are producing with cameras I wish I had make me feel a little sad:shake:

To be fair it's their money and they can mortgage their house and buy a Hasselblad if they really wanted but it won't make their photographs any better.

One of the guys that regularly comes in prints off very lovely macro photographs of things he sees in his garden. I asked him what camera he uses and it turned out to be some panasonic with 5.1MP...

This might be a bold statement but at least half of the photographs I see (including a lot of my own) could easily have been taken on a camera sub £200. Obviously I can tell the difference in quality when someone comes in to my shop and prints off a 20"x30" from their iphone.

When your showing photographs on Flickr Facebook etc we are talking less pixels than the recommended amount for a sharp 6"x4" print! Sometimes I can't tell the difference between an iphone photo on a sunny day compared to a dslr on these sites. I guess it's like buying a ferrari and its speed is limited to 30mph:p
 
Absolutely, replace your kit lens with a better photographer lol
I just have my kit lenses hanging around in case I dont know what to use, My camera has either my 35 macro lens as standard or my om mount 50 or 70-150.
TBH I hate the thing that people seem to rate a fifty 1.8 so much lower than a 50 1.4, there is b****r all difference really, it's not a complete stop.
 
The 18-55 kit lens actually gets good reviews it's not a bad lens although if your gonna upgrade and want 1 of the lenses I'd get the 24-70 definitely get an ef lens for future upgrades and resale value I currently have an 18-135 and the nifty 50 my next lens is a 70-200 f2.8 mk11 coming soon :) everyones gotta have a 70-200 in there bag if I were u I'd have a look at them :)
