What eos should i go for

I am trying to decide which canon eos to go for a 40d or a 450d

I dont need the lens straight away as the other half has an eos film camera thats not used that much and she has the standard and quite a long telephoto one so i could just get the body.

the 40d had a lower pixel count but more rapid shot possibilty.

I want a canon.

any advice
 
The 40D is much better. It's a semi-professional camera, better to handle, more features, and much, much better high ISO noise performance. I'd have thought a 40D has a better AF system than the 450D as well. The lower pixel count won't make any difference unless you're printing massive posters or something like that. 40D is the way to go. What sort of photography are you going to be using it for, just out of interest?
 
Depends on what you are going to shoot, the 40D has a beter build quality, some more advanced fetures, and as you say the frame rate is faster, I have 2 40D's and would say go for that.

Unless you're printing very large 2 megapixels won't matter.
I'm a 450D owner and will be moving to a 40D in June.
The 2 main reasons are better ISO performance and higher RAW burst (and of course higher FPS). The 450D can only burst 6 RAW's before the buffer fills and you have to wait. The 40D can do 16/17 RAWS in a continuous burst.

If i knew what i know now 12 months ago i would have got the 40D :)
 
i would like to be able to take nice pictures, I have used film camera in the past and then moved to a slip in your pocket camera for ease of use but I would like to be able to do long distance shots and fast moving action, cars and sports so the faster frame rate would be idea,

is there anywhere that you can used 40d's so my budget would go further.

I see the 40d uses compact flash is that better than sd card.

Father in law has a 40d but i wondered if the 450d would be as good, I have only seen it in a display cabinet it looks ok on its own but you can tell the difference when you compare the 2
