what lens for cricket

would a nikon 400 f2.8 withe a 2x converter do the job

Cheers Steve
Easily good enough especially if youre using it with the crop D300S youre looking at over 1200mm, probably wont even need the 2x convertor, get a 1.4x and this would be long enough even for the biggest county grounds

These were taken using a sigma 170-500mm on a Canon 400D.

Haven't done anything in the way of PP and I've resized them a fair bit to make u/l easier but it'll give you an idea.

One of my favourite shots has to be this

I agree with Gary 400 should be ample with the converter.
I used to get away with a 300 + 1.4 converter on a D2h for most of my grounds. I'm on a D3 now so I may stuggle this season :(. Kind regards Graham.

Hi Steve i used the 400 f/2.8 with 1.7 TC last year for England Vs Bangladesh

2xTC would probably be ok but 1.7 and a little cropping did the job for me.

Most guys i saw were on D3/D3S with either 500 or 600 and a 1.4 or the same but on MKIII/MKII

Hi Steve, I should have made clear the 300+converter was for the west Yorkshire league club grounds!,

for county stuff then a 400+ converter is an absalute minimum!. Kind regards Graham
