What lens should I be using?

Im new with photography, the lenses I have are, canon 18-55mm, 50mm 1.8, 55-250mm...

I don't really know which to use when im just going out places, like a park, the beach.. just a general lens?

Hi jack,

ther are no univerasl rules. Just pop one on your camera and go out and take some pictures. Swop the lenses the next day and keep trying them out. Look at lots of good photographers (maybe go to your library and loan some photography books).

The only tip regarding lenses would give you to start, is use the 50mm when there is not a lot of light, the aperture is wider than the other lenses meaning you can keep your shutter speed up when it gets dark.

For general use the small zoom, for portraits and landscapes where you want to flatten perspective the telezoom.

For lower light (as above) the 50, also use this when you want to throw the back ground out of focus completely by using it virtually wide open like
f1.8~f2.8.
