Hello,

So i have just upgraded my camera body and i am now looking to buy a new lens. The only think is i not to sure what.

I have a 50mm 1.8 and love it so i was considering getting another prime, either a Canon 85mm 1.8 or 100mm 2.0, is there any other good lenses i should be looking at, i have about £300ish from selling my old camera and will most likely buy the lens second had to be able to get a nicer one.

So if anyone has any recommendations for that price range or has any views on the 85 or 100mm let me know.

Would the Canon 100mm f2.8 macro or the Sigma 10-20mm f4-f5.6 be of interest? These would be at the upper end (new) of £300+

Those might complement your bag more, Id find two primes in close focal lengths to be a bit too similar - its depends what you want to shoot but ;-)

I shoot many mountain biking, but would also be looking at using the lenses for filming as well on the 7D.

And i am thinking of getting something wider like the 10-22mm a bit later on.

Ill have a look into the 100mm macro 2.8 as well thanks.
 
I just got the 10-22 and think it is a nice lens indeed. Im sure I saw some bike photography using a wide angle and it looks pretty amazing. It was shot close at the wide end and gave the kinda cool distorted/exaggerated style, depends how close you want to get ;-)

Maybe the macro isnt a great idea for what you do, I'm sure there will be better recommendations coming up from the folks on here!!
 
I own a 100mm f2 and it produces gorgeous pictures however it might be a bit too long for the mountain bike stuff. Great for portraits but you have to be pretty far back on a crop body.

If going wider and want a prime could I throw the Sigma 30mm 1.4 into the mix.

Thats the thing i am torn between, i would like one with a nice distance but also a wide angle just not sure which one. And after using my 50mm a lot i think i would like to stick to primes as well atm.

I was looking at that in the sale section a while ago but wouldn't want to buy it due to the cosmetics on it. Think i may keep and out for something simular though.

Make sure you get the newer mk2 version. I've got this lens and it's stunning, far surpassed my expectations which were already very high to start with!
