What single lens to put on D5100 for the old lady

Seems now that the old lady wants to get into photography after all, so will buy her a new D5100 when I get off the rig in 2 plus weeks time.
I think the kit lens is a 18/55 DX lens but I was thinking of just getting a body and a 18/105mm as it might be better as a all round lens for her and most importantly it’s not "HEAVY" as she is just a wee 47 kilo Thai lady (very nice lady at that).
Anyway experiences, tips, suggestions are more than welcome
Note: I already have the dream team zooms plus the 50mm 1.4G that I use on my D3s that will all fit on her camera body if and when she wants to experiment with them.
 
I think the 18-105 would be the best walkabout if you want a good zoom range. I tend to use the 35mm f1.8 more than any other lens though. Light and versatile.

As you said she can also use your lenses if she wants to experiment more.
 
The 18-200VR is probably too heavy for her, so I'll add +1 to the 18-105VR.

Thanks for all the input, I will be back in KL on the 28th and she can go to the store and try them all out and I agree with most of you the 18/105mm should be the best for starters and I can get the body, lens and a few goodies i.e. bag, memory cleaning kit all for RM2700 or 565 quid
 
The guys on the forum here in Malaysia are saying the 16/65mm is the best way to go......................I will let the old lady decide and hopefully she will like the Tamron or Sigma:):):)

16-65mm??? Never heard of it, do you mean the 16-85mm? It is a cracker, but I thought you wanted range...
 
I have a Canon and I use the 15-85mm which is a fantastic quality walkabout lens. I believe the 16-85mm is the Nikon equivalent so I'd go for that one.
