What upgrade from a D60

Any advice on a logical upgrade from a D60?

I tend to shoot a range of subjects, outdoor portraits at low light, wildlife & landscapes & want to improve my photography.I use a range of lenses at the moment Nikkor AF-S 35mm 1.8G (my favourite),Nikkor 55-200mm 4-5.6G & Sigma10-20mm 4-5.6 HSM.
My budget is around the £500 mark,plus what I can get for the D60 & kit lens (although I could be tempted). I would consider 2nd hand, thinking D90, D300 or D7000,that's the tempted bit;)

Hmmm, tough choice. I suppose the obvious and maybe sensible choice is the D90. It's going to be a decent step up from the D60 in terms of features/controls and would allow you buy brand new if you so wished and still have plenty of change. I think a D300 is about £600ish used. I think personally I'd rather stretch to a D300s but at that price, I'd likely be swayed by a new D7000. Brand new camera, bang up to date and will be current for a good couple of years. There's always something slightly more preferable for a little budget stretch. So for me: sensible choice, D90. Elastic budget, D7000.

I must caveat this by saying that even after typing the above, I'm still wondering whether a used D300S would my preference over a new D7000.... The good thing is that you aren't going to go wrong whatever you choose.
 
Either way you'll be getting some cracking sensor advancements compared to your D60. D90 sensor is brilliant, but the D7000 is even better! :lol: I'm hard pushed between deciding on D7000 or D300s too!

Wait for the announcement of the D5100 which is imminent? It looks like it will have the brilliant sensor of the D7000 and hopefully split the price difference between D3100 and D7000. Either way second hand D90s will get even cheaper with a D5100 on the table.
 
I went from D60 to D300, I prefer the physical size of the D300 and the Pro build quality.
 
OK buying tomorrow, looks like a D90, had a quick play with the D5100 & the D90 and the D90 just felt nicer to use & the price of a new one is pretty good at the moment, probably going for the 18-105mm kit lens.

Anyone had a more in-depth use of the D5100 before I make my mind up?
 
I've just bought a 2nd D90 tonight and sold my D60 within 30mins :lol:

Only cost me £200 for the upgrade, so looking forward to using it! I spent a bit of time reading through threads on here but just cant stretch to a D300 at the moment and i wanted to buy 2nd hand to keep costs down.

It seems like a nice progression to me, hope you're happy with whatever you buy :)
 
The D5100 is an upgrade for the D5000, not the D90. I reckion the D90 is still the better camera.

I'd probably take the d90 over the D5100. But both have their advantages and I wouldn't want to say either was better.

Although I'd take a D7000 over either of them.

EDIT:Or buy a Fuji S1500, I have one. It's main job is that remind me that in the grand scheme of things the D60 isn't a bloody awful as I give it credit for.

I went from a D60 to a D3100 - lovely upgrade in terms of features, build and picture quality, and still very small and light.
 
Job done D90 + 18-105 VR kit lens purchased, not had any time to get out and play, moving house tomorrow, so been busy packing. Hoping to get some time at the lake this weekend to try out my new toy.

I went from a d60 to a d90 and it was good aswell you wont regret it well i haven't yet
