What was the first lens you bought, and why?!!

Sigma 70 - 300 in South Africa as the 18 - 125, which I bought with the camera the day before traveling, was too short :)

Hanimex 80-200 for my MTL5B back in the 80's. Purchased it from Dixon's as it was relatively cheap and gave me some reach.

I don't remember ...exactly - it was a Nikkor - 50mm - I think f/1.4 or wider - manual focus - and I bought it because you were kind of expected to when you ordered a Nikon 'F'. That was in 1971 - and I've bought Nikon ever since.

I do remember though - that the lens and body set me back £240.00 - or about five weeks wages.

only started photography 3 months ago,
so far had
gripped canon 450d + kit lens
sigma apo 135-400
canon 28-135 is usm
canon 50d
and purchased the other day a nifty fifty :D

bloody hobby, i could of had a couple of 5* weeks in egypt for what ive spent so far!

Cosina 19-35. Had bought a 2 lens kit with 28-80 and 70-300 and wanted something wider. Still got it, although it now lives in the cupboard since I now have better lenses covering the same angles.

canon ef70-200 f4L,to replace the ef75-300 canon inc lens,my first venture into L-series lenses and not disappointed

The first lens I bought was a EF-S 55-250mm as the complement to the kit lens. It's a good lens for the money but I soon realised it had limitations and within a few months I went after a 70-200mm 2.8L IS. It was about 10 times the price but doesn't take 10 times as nice photos in most situations, but that's what i had to pay for that extra bit of quality and lightning quick auto focus. No regrets - a truly superb lens!

Next lens will be something like a 24-70mm but it's not a lens I'd use a lot so it can wait until I have the cash to spare.
