Yes
I have a Nikon D300s & MB-D10.... So I am wondering what will make an ideal 3rd lens to make it an ideal piece of kit?

I've managed to get myself a Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 VR (:woot:) at a cracking deal (thanks to John :thumbs) and have already got the "beast" Nikon's 28-70mm f2.8 (recommended over the 17-55mm f2.8)... Full frame won't be for a wee while yet... more like 18mths TBH...

 what should I be looking at getting...

12-24?

Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 or Zeiss 21mm f2.8 if you want something to work for that day when you finally move to FX.

17-35mm f/2.8 - simply amazing....

Prob a daft question but - wouldn't I have been better having Nikon's 17-55mm f2.8 instead of the Nikon 28-70mm 2.8 or is thw 17-35mm a wide angle lens?

Tokina 11-16mm f2.8...

I did have the Tokina 12-24mm f/4 II AT-X124 AF PRO DX last year but sold that on due to lack of use...

Is there any comparison between these two?

Surely it depends on what you want to shoot - if you know you don't use a UWA then why bother buying one?

I've got both those lenses myself FABULOUS. Don't buy just to add another to your collection. Buy to satisfy a Need NOT WANT. Think about getting the D700 instead. With the lenses you already have....heaven.

50mm 1.4 or 85mm 1.8 would be my addition. Primes are better than zooms for IQ and make you think more about what you are doing.

There was that factor when I got the "beast" as it was a toss up between that or the 17-55 f2.8 - so opted I opted for it.

More of a push really - as I got a deal on one that was to good to miss out on - as it wasn't that much of a difference in the price to a 17-55.. & for a future investment if upgraded to FF... Which wont be till next year at the earliest...

not any more... The nikon pro zooms out resolve most of the cheaper prime lenses (all the 50s quite considerably even when stopped down to f/2.8).

Interesting. As far as I know though, there are no Nikon zooms which can be stopped up to f/1.4...

Don't be a smartass, I'm talking about the primes stopped down vs. the zooms wide open.

:nono: Now now.....

I got what you was saying - althou I had to read it twice as it did throw me at first if I was honest...
