What would I need to do photos of flowers?

Right so a family friend has asked for some help. Basically she wants me to do some photos for her to use on her website, she is a professional florist. Just want a couple of pointer on what I would need to get some stunning photos for her? flast wise, lens wise etc.

By no means do i have any experience but all the "studio" flower shots that i've ever seen are on plain and mostly black backgrounds to make the flowers stand out more.

Other than that, time setting up some sort of lighting rig would probably pay dividends.

Yeh was thinking about this sort of set-up had a idea of using just white and black foam board from hobbycraft and maybe a single flash shooting through a umbrella to diffuse a little?
 
Hobbycraft is a great source for backgrounds. Buy some white velvet and black velvet material and you're all set. A macro lens would be great for close ups. but not essential. 24-70 would be acceptable.
An off-camera flash cord and a flash stand would be useful for getting some directional lighting.
FITP sells the stands (and maybe the cords too?)
 
So what studio kit do you currently have? I see your web site and the images are nice. You should be able to set this up with the A700 and your sigma lens with no bother although a longer lens can help minimise any distortion from a wide lens.
 
Well a mate of mine has a 3 head wireless flash system I can borrow but I am thinking its a good excuse to buy a 2 head kit off lencarta lol. Yeh thinking either the Sigma 18-50mm or the Minolta 50mm would do the trick.

With making a background my play was to use two 3 pieces of board one for a base with a hole cut so the bouquet can be stood through it and the other two butted together corner to corner?

Any other ideas?

check out my flickr, every photo on there was taken with either a minolta 50mm or a 55-200mm kit lens (but only a few of them are) i am amazed with what quality ive gotten with a simple 50mm but i still want to get myself a tamron 90mm f2.8 macro.
 
Just wondering if anyone has done anything like this before, if so any suggestion on good backdrops etc I can use. Preferably cheap as possible.
