Just wondering, can you get 105mm lens caps? I've done a search, but all I get is results for lens caps for 18-105mm, 24-105mm, 105mm macro lenses etc. You get filters in 105mm, but I can't find caps, surely they exist? Any help welcome :)

Cheers for that, I thought when you said 'not cheap' it was going to be £20/£30 or something! When I lost my 77mm lens cap I paid that much at a jessops ( :bang: )

I don't suppose you know of one in a real shop/amazon do you? I'd be very very grateful indeed as I keep drawing a blank! :help:

Is this for your 120-300? I looked into them for my 300mm but im "fairly" happy with the hood reversed and the cover on it.

Oooh, that's some good detective work :D

Indeed it is (well not technically mine until I pick it up tomorrow - I feel like it's christmas, definitely won't be sleeping tonight  )

I'm happy to store it with the hood reversed and the pouchy-thing on the end, but when I'm about shooting I quite like to have a lens cap, and I think I'm right in saying the cover won't stay on if the hood isn't reversed? Something to do with the little tightening knob being in the wrong place for the cutout bit on the cover?

Chris

Assuming its the same cover as my Siggy 300mm the cover stays on fine whichever way the hood goes. The hood's that big as well it fairly protects the lens. The end of the hood is rubberised on mine (just as well as i banged the glass just after i got it, not a mark on it). Cant remember what the end of the lens is like, but i remember thinking i doubt a lens cap would stay on.

correct.

is there any reason why you want a cap for it? you could park a small hatchback in the hood so its not going to be easy to hit the element with anything..

I use an Optech long lens boot cap for my 400 and 500 lenses. A neoprene cap with a hard disc in it to protect the end. Will work either hood out or hood reversed.

Does it have the tightening knob thingy? I can't see how it would really work the other way round!

ask sigma.. £20.42 apparently - http://www.sigma-imaging-uk.com/accessories/lens-and-body-caps.htm

:)

edit - oh right you want something to replace the standard leather item?

Yep, what you said in the edit is right!

Haha, just personal preference really! I like to have something covering the end just in case, and I don't believe in UV filters! And even if I did I'm not going to spend £100 on one :D

I'll have a look into it, thanks a lot :)

Chris

Yep still has the tightening know thingy, with the hood on to take photo's the leather hood still wraps round and stays on fine. When its reversed where the velcro flap is just goes round the knob.

Edit just looked at the pics of the 120-300 your getting, either your cover is bigger or my hood is longer so ignore what ive been saying sorry!

I use a lenscoat hoodie thing on my 600mm - they are great. Re. a lens cap for a 120-300 Siggy, I may have one hiding in a cupboard somewhere (I had a couple of them when I had a 120-300.) Now off to have a look ...

Yup, found it lurking at the back ... Together with all sorts of photographic crap I have bought over the years!
If you still need one, pm me your address and I will stick it in an envelope for you. Oh, and are you sure you don't want a 105mm UV/protection filter ...

 are you serious?! That would be truly amazing! And if it's not too much to ask, I might even give the uv/protection filter a go :D

I'm on my iPhone at the moment trying to sorb out the Internet on my computer, when it's done i'll Denton a pm! You're a star,
