Just for fun and curiosity, I was wondering what the maximum frames you have shot in any one day?

I generally will shoot anything between four or five shots up to as much as 800 I shot at a firework display. This I actually did on two consecutive nights so had 1600 pictures to view and edit.

I am guessing that some of you guys that shoot motor sport or football/basketball games might easily exceed my totals.

Most I've done is about 500 in a couple of hours at the motocross.

About 350 a day on Holiday last week until she who must be obeyed got upset. :eek:ops:

Thats a good reply, I am lucky in that I usually shoot with like minded people or "she who must be obeyed" is also interested in photography so allows me to take as much time as I require. That makes it really easy to shoot many frames.

I have just given my better half my Kodak DX6490 to try as she wants to take some photos of her plants. Hopefully that will kindle her interest.

Well.... since you DID ask for "frames"... I shot 1600 in 5 minutes to catch that Saturn image I posted here. So... add the 1200 I shot of Jupiter & the 700 or so for each moon shot... yes... all in one night in a 1 hr span... probably close to 5000 or so :D

The most painstaking part of this form of photography is actually going through each & every frame to find and choose the best ones... that usually takes hours for each completed photo. As stated above... the Saturn image I took was originally 1600 frames, but I weeded out the bad ones and used the best ones, which was a total of 526 frames.

Anyway... I shoot ALOT of frames per session

Close to 1000 for the European Dance event in Liverpool the other week. That was one day, from 11am till around 3pm.

That’s cheating as you are doing a much more specialist type of photography :p . Spill the beans, doing conventional photography, how do you stack up to the big boys?

 OK...Ok... for general photography, the most I ever shot in one day was about 450 frames doing street photography in downtown Philadelphia. I RARELY exceed that.

About 3 years ago I would have probably been taking 3-400 piccies on a day out.

I now look at what I want to get and on some days only take as many as 40.

The most I’ve shot in a single day is around 1200 images

What subject matter was that if you dont mind me asking?

A few events i've taken approx 1200 images

At Oulton Park last year for the Touring cars and supporting races, I had just got my 100-400L and was practising :)
A trackday at Oulton park I took just over 1,000 images and at a Karting event recently - arrived at 8am right though until 7pm (ish).

Most are a series of continuous shots, I pick the best one and delete the rest.

i took 256or so last saturday and thought that was alot!!!!!

My 1GB card fits around 450 images, so thats my total. I need to get another card! :)

Yup I agree with that, you can never have enough storage. I use a few different cards and also take my laptop on extended trips so that I never feel restricted and don't have to worry about running out of storage space.

I only have one 1 gig card and rarely manage to fill this, shooting in Raw I only get about 150 ish pics to the card. I try to be conservative while shooting only because of my lack of storage, which I know is not ideal and more storage on shopping list also. I would be interested to know out of the many pics you all take, how many are worth keeping. As a rough guess I’d say out of the 150 or so I could take I’d be lucky to get 25 decent shots, some just don’t view like the actual shot intended and the rest are bad exposure and focus. :eek:ops:

My 'keepers' out of a full card of pics would be very few usually, due to the same cock ups everyone makes, and ruthless pruning when it comes to sifting through them later. Out of 36 exposures on film, if I had one shot that I was really happy with I didn't consider the day wasted. Since I get about 100 raw shots on a 1 gig card that equates to about three shots I'd really like typically. There'd probably be two or three at most usually, which might be rescuable with some Photoshop work and that's about it.

I'm talking about 'stand alone' photos not just record shots of a day out and family snap shots everyone values for different reasons. Being hyper- critical and merciless with your pruning is the key to really improving your work. It's all about chasing that 'perfect' shot which you may never take anyway, but that's the quest and the fascination. I saw Patrick (Lord) Lichfield interviewed where he said he'd never taken a shot he was entirely happy with so I wouldn't get too despondent about it.

They used to say that film was the cheapest thing in photography. We don't even have that problem now so just keep practising and keep binning.

Probably around 450 shots, but was mainly due to running out of memory cards
