does anyone else feel a bit awkward..i hate to say it but in today's society i feel very uncomfortable when im out taking photos of anything ..just recently i was walking in the park taking photos of a few newly blossomed flowers and i felt really strange getting down to the flowers level even go as far to say as felt stupid doing it..anyone else feel this way or is it just me

Just you mate, I'm more confident than ever with my camera. I used to shy away from people in parks etc but now I'm straight over to them having a chat, especially if they have pets.

I even got talking to publisher who was looking for a photographer this way :naughty:

well i am new to the outside pictures as i do portraits as a rule but fancied a change but to be honest when taking photos outside i normally go for somewhere i know not a lot of people will be

Actually, I feel similar in some situations. I'm usually quite a self concious person and I suppose having a 'big' camera makes me feel more conspicuous. It tends to be fine if I'm out somewhere where people are likely to be taking photographs, tourist style for example. But street photography scares me a bit.

I also find that I want to take pictures at parties and family events, and inevitably do, but I cringe when I reach for the camera bag knowing the comments I'll get when people see a camera with a protruding lens and speedlight! Usually regarding size & weight. Although they're usually impressed with the results.

I guess it just goes as you get more confident? But I can't help but feel i'll always be a little self concious.

No, no problem, exept perhaps when near kids. But normaly feel perfectly at ease! Just need to clock who and what is around you!

yer i guess what everyone is saying is true ...the only way i can explain is that when the camera is out i almost feel like im invading everyones space even though the camera may not even be pointing anywhere ..almost like everyones saying whats he doing lol

yer can understand kids for sure that goes without saying :)

Ha not really I tend to storm on when out hiking and get lost in my own wee world, I don't really notice anything apart from what I am trying to capture. Thats why I have to carry tide tables around with me now, very nearly got caught out :).

I'm usually the same, until I've taken my first photo of the day. After that I'm usually in my own world and pay little attention to others. Of course, having my base in central London it's sometimes difficult to not pay attention to the hordes of people here; especially when they keep walking into my camera while I'm trying to take a picture! :bang:

thanks for the replys so im guessing at the end of it just think ive got just as much right to be here as they have and just concentrate on the photo ..il try that cheers
