So, at what point will a new camera benefit a photographer. For example, I have a Canon 400D at the moment. My heart tells me at the moment that I have LOADS to still get my head around. Also, I believe that I will spend my monies on better quality lenses first.

However, eventually I will be looking at upgrading to another Canon. Question is, how do you know when you need to upgrade?

its hard to say. i feel that my 400d struggles at higher iso, which can sometimes hold me back. but i have decided that i wont buy a new body until i feel i have earnt something from my photography

I've just read Geof Ascough's blog (top wedding TOG for those who don't know him) and he discusses the subject of equipment. It's his view that the equipment is nowhere near as important as the photographers eye for a subject and his sense of timing.

I agree with this view and think that proving the camera takes good quality images, and let's face it, even entry level SLR can produce fantastic photographs, the photographer's skills are far more important than the camera the TOG is using.

You'll know when to upgrade, it's when you find yourself saying "if only I could have done...." or "I'd have got that shot if........" or

"Ooooh, Jessops are having a SALE......."
