i have just come across this picture and i am wondering what it is, i am guessing a tight rubber case to help against dropping and a little abuse, and maybe even a little rain??? again i could be very very wrong.

so what is it???

does it do what i said???
 
Yeah that is rubberised camera armour. It's great for avoiding bumps and scrapes and can be resistant to light rain.

I know someone who bought a DSLR and then bought armour to go with it and now if he takes the armour off the camera looks brand new! It's also great for urbex and rough environments that may harness dust onto your camera which can sometimes seep through the gaps ;)

That's not Camera Armor. That's a Delkin Snug-It Pro :thumbs: I have owned both types, the Armor on a Canon 5D mkII and a Snug-It on the Canon 7D. I really liked the Snug-It, it fits so much better and doesn't get all crap stuck to it. The holes are more precisely cut too, while the Armor got in the way of some of the buttons :)

Looks perfect for trapping moisture and heat inside the body...

If manufacturers meant them to have fat rubber covers, they'd make them with fat rubber covers.
Electronic equipment needs to 'breathe' otherwise condensation and/or heat builds up inside the casing.

If you really think you're being brutal enough with your kit to warrant its use, by all means go ahead, but I'd suggect not thinking of it as a permanent fixture - put it on when needed, then take it off again.
However, if you're just being precious about the camera's paint: don't be such a wuss - get out there and get it dirty...
 
I'm sure I've seen that sort of armour in the clearance bin in Jessops a few months ago. I'm with Rob as well - if it's a good fit, it may well draw rain in between itself and the camera body due to capillary action as well as trapping dust and grit in the gap causing wear.
 
I had a case very similar in style on my iPhone. I took it off once to change the sim card and my phone was scratched to buggery on the back. All the dirt and crap got caught bewteen the case and the phone and months of use acted like sandpaper.

I wouldnt use one of those on my camera.
