Sorry if this is in the wrong place or if there are already threads about it, I did search but couldn't find what I was looking for....

Wondered if anyone could recommend great quality, good value brand of 8GB Memory Cards for my Canon 7D. I want to get about 6 of them so that I have a few spares and don't need to worry about wiping them too quickly. I have 2 but managed to negotiate them as freebies when I bought my camera! The others I have are all 2GB and now I'm shooting in RAW & JPEG I need more space!

On the same topic can anyone recommend great quality, good value brand of DVD's that I can back up to... I've been backing up to my external HD and on my PC but reading all the threads on here has made me think I really need to get organised and back up to DVD on a regular basis.

Thank you! :)

For memory cards are concerned I tend to stick to brands I know and trust, then look for a good price. MyMemory tend to have good deals at certain times, but check out Warehouse Express, 7dayshop and similar. I needed a compact flash card and an SD card recently, the best deals I got was Warehouse Express for the SD but MyMemory for the CF. Also bear in mind some prices include postage where others don't.

As far as DVD's I did some research some years ago and the result was that Verbatim came out top as far as reliability is concerned, which is important for backups and have used them ever since.

Have a look at specialist media companies for good prices, I use APR Media for my full face printable disks.

Memory card wise, I've bought either Sandisk or Lexar.

7 Day shop / Play / Amazon and on occasions Dixons / PCW etc are worth a look on the internet for the best price.

As for DVDs it's not the brand name so much as who makes them that's important. I think it's generally agreed that Taiyo Yuden make the best DVD/CDs for archiving files. You can buy them under their own name or sometimes under other branded names like Maxell but not all their discs will be Taiyo Yuden ones. Go to http://www.svp.co.uk/ and search for Taiyo Yuden

You want 6 x 8GB cards! Even if you buy Sandisk Ultra (30 MB/s) you're looking at £130 or thereabouts. If you go for Extreme then it's more like £250. Do you really need that much storage?

I'd rather buy a single 16GB Extreme (60 MB/s) card for around £75 (or use the 2 8GB cards you've already got) and a storage device like the Nexto ND2700 (£180 for 500 GB).
