I've got a couple of Nissin Di866 flashguns and can heartily recommend them. I've also had a couple of other Nissin flashes and all have been fantastic. Great build quality, great features and powerful output. Here's a link to the Di622 MkII which is compatible with Sony as well as other mounts http://www.nissindigital.com/di622mii.html
If you're happy with manual, then a Youngno 460-II or 560/560-II is a great option.
The Jessops AFD 360 is another cheap option if you want TTL, though not as powerful as the Youngno's.
Minolta 3600 HS(d) is the cheapest of the Sony/Minolta flashes - good for TTL or remote using the A700 pop-up flash as controller, but lacks swivel on the head.
The Sony 56 or Minolta 5600 HS(D) gives good power, swivel/bounce and Sony wireless.
Sony 58 if you have the cash fro something all singing & dancing
