Which lens for Disneyland Paris please? (D90)

Hi all,

We're taking the kids to Disneyland Paris in the new year for what will probably be their only visit (due to them getting too old) and I am looking to buy or more likely hire a lens for my D90 to really get the best from the trip.

I don't want to be lugging loads of kit and swapping lenses so all that'll be going is the camera, flash and one lens.

Having never been, I need to figure out what the best lens to get will be. Obviously a lot of the shots will be fairly close up (of the kids with the characters etc), but what else will there be to shoot that I may need something longer for?
Looking for anyone who can suggest a good all-rounder please?

I guess VR will be a must as no doubt many of the rides will be low light.
I was thinking maybe the 24-120 VR or the 18-200 VR - or am I off the mark?

VR won't help on the rides as it can't stop motion blur (although you may be able to get some funky effects).

What lens do you have? the 18-105 kit lens would more than suffice I reckon.
 
I think (trying to remember) what I used when we went (about 10 years or so ago) was the shorter zoom lens (18-55, 17-85 type) as you are quite close to a lot of stuff.

I'm not familier with the 24-120 or 18-200 Nikon lenses, but I'd be tempted with the 18-200 as it gives you the wider angle.

18-200 is not the best IQ wise. The 24-120 f4 is supposed to be pretty decent and I guess a good compromise. What do you have now? I would be tempted to take a prime however, as often getting down to f1.8 could be very useful.
 
Don't discount the Nikon 16-85, great zoom range, excellent image quality and small & light.

I have the 18-55 kit lens which has an intermittent fault so unreliable, a 28-105 non-DX lens and a 70-300.

The 16-85 should be a good option if I can find one to rent. :thumbs:
Might rent a prime too, just in case. 35 or 50mm?

Not theme park related but recently went to Dubai and just took my 35mm and 50mm but ended up using just the 35mm.
