Hi, I am up grading my lenses and was wondering what you would suggest as my set up. I want it to cover alot of things like, Landscape, macro, Portrait, street etc.

I was thinking maybe - sigma 10-20mm

canon 50mm

Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 EX DG HSM

sigma 70-200 f2.8 mkII EX OR
Tamron 70-200 f2.8 Di ld OR
Canon 70-200 f4.0 L USM

Tokina 100mm macro

18-55MM kit lens.

Any suggestions and help welcome?

would you take all that kit in one day. I have:

10-22
17-70
70-200
150 + 1.4TC
50
85

i struggle to carry all that plus a tripod for a full day.

I break it down to 2/3 lenses like so.

lanscapes - 10-22mm + 70-200 just incase any nice wildlife appears.
portraits 50 + 85 + 70-200
Macro - 17-70 +150 + 1.4 TC
Street - generally Prime(s) + 70-200

i do have different bags depending on what i am doing but dont forget weight of other items like flashes, filters etc can add weight as well.

I would take all if i thought i would need them, only 6 lenses total.
I currently have,
18-55 kit
50 prime
10-20mm
budget 70-300
100mm macro.

Was thinking the 24-70 instead of the 18-55 kit lens and one of the 70-200s to replace budget 70-300.

16-35 2.8
24-70 2.8
70-200 4 (soon to be 2.8)

This is a HEAVY bag :)

HHMM, So many choices.

My main decision is the 70-200, cant decide which one.

Thinking of the sigma or tamron over cannon f4 as like the depth of field.

So, 10-20, 50mm,24-70, 70-300 plus macro should cover most needs and not use kit lens.

Just seen this lens advertised, any good? Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD
If using this would it mean not needing the 24-70 and 70-300. Or would i be best with the 2. Also how much blur can you get with f4 on a 70-300 compared to f2.8? I like the blured background on some street/portraits. Thanks for all the help.

i use a 35mm f2 (crop sensor body) and sometimes cart about a sigma 50-150 f2.8

that's it, makes it pretty mobile

The quality of super-zooms is generally pretty average. Also you wont be able to auto-focus at the longer end of that zoom (anything past f/5.6)
f/4 will give plenty of blur, it usually just depends on the distance from you to the subject and from the subject to the background.

I hate carrying more lenses than I need to. Unfortunately I have a liking for prime lenses so it can get a bit daft at times. But if I really don't know what I need I'll probably go for the 17-40 or 24-105. On the other hand if I do know, then I'll chose a suitable prime anyday.

Carry bag, (for days out) usually will consist of 24-70, 70-200, 50 and flash. But if i were to be going to a Castle of something of a botanic nature, i would drop the 70-200 and take the 12-24 and 105 macro instead. Heavy ish but my bag is comfy.

I now take my sigma 10-20, 50 1.8, and 55-250 IS when I'm on walkabout in London. Covers most bases.

Saying that....if I had one, drop the 55-250 for a 24-70 or 24-105 for city walkabouts

I take all my lenses (of course I don't have many :)). Generally the 55-250 is on the body, and in the bag is the 18-55, Nifty Fifty and the Raynox DCR250. So I can go from Macro up to reasonable telephoto. Of course, 9 times out of 10, I've got the wrong lens on the camera when I see something I want to shoot :D

18-70mm
70-300mm VR
85mm 1.8

:)

50mm

or

24-120mm VR

or soon 17-35mm/12-24mm depending on which way I go (am not sure that I need more width than 17mm and the f/2.8 is pretty compelling for versitility around cities).

Most likely I'll always take the 50 though, they're just so useful.

I do not carry all my lenses with me when I go out. Generally I am either going to do landscapes, when I take the shorter lenses + filters & Tripod, or very occasionally wildlife, when I take the longer end + monopod.

I find it more enjoyable walking with less gear than humping a huge amount that I might use for 1 shot.

Looks like you already have a good range of lenses and that you are looking to upgrade rather than expand your lens collection.

If I'm just taking the camera over my shoulder it'll have either the 18-50 or the 55-250 on it, with the other one in my pocket. If I take the bag then they're all in there, just incase :).

+1 for always having the wrong lens fitted when I spot something interesting though.

Ideal set up:

10-22, 24-105, 100-400

and a few primes thrown in; sigma 30mm, canon 85 1.8, maybe a couple of longer ones as well for wildlife

As for what I take with me at any one time - I take it all :D I've got a big bag which can fit everything in and is comfortable enough to walk all day in it so I do, and isn't overly heavy considering what I carry all day at work and what we used to do in rugby training.

Can't see the point in leaving something at home and then regretting it.

depends where i go

out and about for landscapes etc it would be

28mm 50mm 17-50, after today 24mm aswell

motorsports i did take the above plus 70-200 and 120-300 (or 100-300) whichever i had at the time

I look at what I'm going to be shooting and pack accordingly.

Landscapes I take my 12-24mm and my 150mm Macro.
I'd love to take a longer lens but the 120-300 is simply too damn heavy for 'occasional use'
Motorsports and beasts I take the 120-300, the 150mm Macro and the 17-85

Also you wont be able to auto-focus at the longer end of that zoom (anything past f/5.6)
.
Actually, you will.
The lenses do some tomfoolery to trick the cameras into letting AF continue even at the long (F6.3) end.

if just going out then I take the 70-200 and 17-35. if going wild lifeing 70-20 and 300. with the extenders in the bag. if taking pic's of koi for the web 28-70 (soon to be 24-70)

At work I'll always have 10-20, 24-70, 70-200 and 50mm 1.8, because I can be asked to do any different thing at the drop of a hat.

If it's just me out and about, well it depends. If it's a country walk then 10-20 and 70-200 usually do the trick.

If there's some kind of function on, I try to just use the nifty when I can - but I will take the 24-70 and 10-20 just in case.

I carry all my lenses with me....have missed a few shots before when I didn't have the preferred lens.

Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8
Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8
Sigma 50mm f/1.4
Nikon 85mm f/1.4
Tamron 90mm f/2.8

:)
