which scanner for 35mm slides ?

I have 1000s of 35mm slides and I need to scan them into my computer/ memory stick.
Would appreciate any advice on best sanner in terms of speed and quality.

Ped's Plustek in the for sale section. But 1000s is going to take forever and require a big memory stick.

A Nikon Coolscan is the best you can get but it ain't cheap.
 
for what it's worth, I used an Epson perfection 1670 scanner to digitalize my negs and slides. Not a specific film scanner but it does have the built in light source that enables you to scan said slides. The only problem is it would probably take an awful long time to scan 1000 slides, and as it it a fair few years old you might have trouble locating one. When you have enough posts perhaps you could try on the "wanted" forum on here.
 
Epson V750/700 has a slide holder that holds 12 slides. Also the excellent Silverfast software. You can make templates/presets for various film types (also for neg scanning). I scanned 5000 slides - it took a while, but not too bad once you get it all set up. It also has carriers for 120 roll, and you can do 4x5, large format, etc.
