Which Teleconverter for bulls in a paddy field

Guys,
I am going on a photo trip to Indonesia to photograph bull racing in paddy fields. The longest lens I have is a Nikon 70/200mm f2.8 af ED11 on a D3s body.
I have been advised to have as long a lens as possible as it could get dangerous to get to close to the racing bulls so I was wondering which telecoverter to get out of the Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E II / 1.7 or the 2.0 as I dont have the cash right now to buy a longer lens

Thoughts and advice would be much appreciated
 
Well, if you can afford the 2.0 III, then that's the one. I use it a lot and it's great. Far better than the 1.7.
I used it on my D3s and it really is a cracker. 140-400mm 5.6 isn't a problem for the D3s. Set the auto iso and you will get some cracking shots.

Ordered the 20E III already, just one more question?
I have a monopod, do you think that will help with the extra length, or just go hand held, also been reading on other forums that the 2.0 will work better at f5.6 or 6 rather than f4………or something like that

I've never found a need to use a monopod with the 70-200/tc combo. Remember it'll now be wide open at f/5.6 though and, on the 300 f/2.8 at least, found it at it's best if stopped down a bit, so you'll need to take that into account...

OK well I guess I will start out at f6.2 or even 7.2 and set ISO to auto.....................got to love the ISO on the D3s
 
I use the 200-400mm handheld with the converter on, so the 70-200mm should be easy. :thumbs:

Apologies to Neil for butting in on his thread, but does anyone know where the Nikon 20E-III is available?

I've tried all the big outlets both by shop and online but no-one seems to have any stock. Probably also proves how good the TC is.

They turn up in the classifieds here for ridiculously low prices, considering how good they are....
 
Leaving the rig next week and off to the paddy fields that weekend so will post up some pictures from the event using the 70/200 with the 20III TC on
