Which tripod?

Mainly to be used for macro work with a geared focus rail, I want it to be relatively portable and quite sturdy. I thought one of the following;
Manfrotto 190XPROB with 496RC2 head
Manfrotto MK293A4-A3RC1 kit

I have between £100-£150 to spend. Any cash left over from the £150 budget will go towards my next lens purchase.... I am erring on The side of decent make, like manfrotto,.... Thoughts?
 
I've always used a Manfrotto 190, although mine's an old 190QCB. I wouldn't swap it for anything. It's brilliant. It's also 20 years old soon, and still perfect, despite the abuse I give it.

Pretty much, another bit of advice I read was buy the heaviest tripod you are willing to carry around
Not so sure that heaviest will always mean most stable, but sure it would help considerably

Think the idea is don't get one that will be so cumbersome that you just wouldn't bother taking it along

Presumably you will want to get down low for macro so that needs thinking about and not so much about how stable at full leg extension

Your first option sounds ok to me, my daughter has that head with the C/F 4 leg 190 and she seems perfectly happy with it

Can't comment on Redsnapper, most appear to be satisfied although have seen some not so keen

Yeah that's what drew me to the 190 - you can change the way the central column attaches to get it close to the ground. I think the others do similar, but I really liked the way the 190 worked (I have the good fortune of having a LCE in town!)
