which tripod?

I've been borrowing various tripods from friends for a while now and the time has come when i need to put my hand in my pocket and buy my own.

I've not got endless funds (who has) but i need one that will last a few years and do a good job.

I do a bit of portrait photography but also weddings so i need one that reasonably lightweight and quick to adjust.

I've had a look on the manfrotto website and i think that a 190xpro tripod with the manfrotto grip action ball head is a good option and i can get the two for £160 which seems a good deal but wondered if anyone new of a better option? or is this a good choice?

I had a look at your threads and it looks good. I like the idea of not having levers to adjust the legs. Slim did you end up changing the trigger head in the end? Only i also do some portrait pic's occassionally.

No m8 the head has to be set a serton way then its fine :thumbs:
 
They only show the tb-12 ball head on there website so i'm toying with the idea of getting the 283 redsnapper tripod and the manfrotto grip action ball head. For weddings i need to be able to adjust the postion quickly and the manfrotto head allows you to do it one handed without looking. I guess with the redsnapper head you need to support the camera with one hand whilst you loosen the nut with the other?

Thanks for you advise, when i finally decide what to get i'll let you know. Could do with it for Sunday so need to decide today! :thinking::thinking::shrug:

I think i will, Just been reading reviews on the manfrotto head and apparently not good for small hands. Could you maybe PM me his number if you have it. I can't find the thread with his website on.

Thanks for all the advise guys.

I've just spoken to Joe (really nice bloke) and i've got the Redsnapper Tri-283 and TB-12 ball head on its way to me. I explained i've left it all to the last minute and need it for Sunday and he's getting it put on an overnight delivery so fingers crossed it could be with me tomorrow! All for just under £100, can't complain about that!!! :woot::D

Def would recommend them based on service alone (i'll let you know about the tripod when i get it).

I've emptied the pot now though so will have to start saving again for the 85mm f1.8 CT recommended. :'(
 
Nice buy m8 the base along I would pay £100 I think when looking at otheres in Jessop and Jacobs

You set the two knobs (1 friction control-1 release) to suit you camera/lens weight then just move it around to suit. Shouldn't need to adjust it much!!
