The same people that use Hassys, Mamiya AFDs etc???

Studio shooters where image quality is the overriding requirement.

Weathersealed so aimed at appealing to landscapers?
 
errm very nice! And, I may be wrong, but I believe a good price for a 40mp MF camera.
I'm quite happy with what I use, but wouldn't mind a play with this. Who would use it? Not sure, but probably fashion photographers who shoot for magazines?
 
As Nigel, I believe that that is pretty much a bargain for what it is.
 
I think that it's largely being aimed at professionals who may be using a D3x or similar at the moment, and looking to move to a larger format system, or wealthy amateurs who like shooting landscapes and test charts.

Hasselblad have launched a camera system at a similar price point.

There is web chatter that it's the reason the Canon 1Ds mkIV is taking so long to come out.

Still with that sensor size, its more like a crop medium format.

They should call it the 433D not the 645D as the sensor is only 44mm x 33mm as opposed to the original film size of 60mm x 45 mm

When someone brings out a true 6 x 6 that doesn't cost the same as a small jet fighter I will be interested.

I suppose Pentax can call their camera whatever they like but you're right it is only half the size of a 645 frame.
So manufacturers shaft the consumer up the arse again, we all thought a digital slr was a digital version of 35mm film camera until......they introduce a full frame camera..:lol:
44 x 33 and calling it 645 really is taking the **** though..
 
A previous owner of a Pentax 645N film camera starts to compare the 645D with his Fujifilm S5 Pro and Canon 1DsIII here (warning: big files).

As for its looks/ergonomics, Pentax owners often say their cameras are designed by fellow camera users. The new 645D owner in the link above writes:

Handling. All i can say is wow. it has the same weight as the 1DsIII but its balance is totally different. Maybe i am just used to the feel of it from before with my 645N days but i really love the handling of the 645D. It is not only not awkward but i can hand hold it a lot easier than the 1DsIII.
