Yes
The more effort I put into taking pictures, the worse they come out? Yet when I just go out and go for it, without 'trying' I get much better results.

you know the answer to that then
don't try so hard

Sometimes you can get too tied up in trying to get a certain shot imo

I'm guilty of this too and I think it is definitely possible to try too hard and end up worrying so much about composition, exposure etc that you can end up with a technically good but otherwise bland photo. Whereas if I am more relaxed a lot of the technical aspects will gradually become second nature and you can concentrate on enjoying your photography a lot more.

Tommy.

let's ask it another way - who says they are worse? you or someone else?

maybe you are being more critical because you are expecting a bigger difference?

put some examples up on here and let people make an assessment without the emotional connection you will have?

My trouble when I try to hard is I take no photo's, I can spend a day walking about and take 5 or 6 shots because nothing else was right and those 5 or 6 will generally be poor. On the other hand if I just go out to do something else and take my camera with me I tend to shoot loads more and get better shots.
